Good service?

Good morning everyone,

Did you enjoy the fantastic weather yesterday? I hope so, because it's going to be a couple of days before we have nice weather again...they are calling for a 50% chance of rain both today and tomorrow. It's supposed to be nice the middle of next week...I hope so! I'm losing my tan!

So, my regular readers might remember me writing about a leaky ceiling at my apartment about a year that I think about it, it was probably closer to a year and a half ago. When I spoke to the landlady, she said the maintenance staff were a bit busy, but that they'd get to it as soon as they could. Well, they didn't...and then the ceiling developed a new leak. At one point, I had two buckets in my kitchen collecting rainwater. I guess the good news is that if we had had a drought, I would have been fine! Ha ha!

I called her again to ask her when they'd make it to fix the leak and she was surprised that it hadn't been fixed. Apparently the next apartment also had a leaky ceiling and when they fixed that one, they assumed that my leak was fixed as well. (Is that normal in Japan? Because it sounds like pretty shoddy service to me! How can you 'assume' that it's fixed!? Don't you check to make sure?) Anyway, they came again about a month ago and fixed the leak, but didn't fix the stains in the ceiling (which were actually holes by the time they got around to it-I swear if they hadn't fixed them last week, I was about to stop paying my rent!).

Last week, they finally came and fixed the holes/stains and put two trapdoors in the ceiling...I tried to get some explanation on why the trapdoors were there and the workman (not the world's friendliest guy, but when have you ever met a contractor who was friendly? Ha ha!) said they were for 'checking'. I don't know what they would be 'checking' for above my ceiling, but big question was, if I needed them now, why didn't they put them in originally? How come I didn't need them before, but I do now? Well, that question blew his mind, I think...ha ha! He didn't really answer, he just bowed and apologized and got out of there as quickly as he could...I guess he then went home and complained to his wife about the annoying foreigner who asks too many questions! Ha ha! But, wouldn't you want to know?! Or is it just me?

Anyway, I don't really care, as long as water doesn't come through my ceiling again.

Have a great day!
