For once...I agree...

Good morning everyone,

Well, it's cool and wet out there. I think the rain has stopped and it should clear up throughout the day. Tomorrow and Tuesday will be nice, with highs in the mid 20s and mostly sunny weather. From Wednesday it's a bit tough to predict with Typhoon 27 bearing down on Japan. It'll all depend on where it makes landfall...

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you'll know that more often than not I'm critical of the government. And I'm an equal opportunity critic-I'm not only critical of Japan's government but Canada's and well, everyone's! Ha ha! I think they all act like a bunch of spoilt children who are more concerned with lining their pockets and fighting with each other than they are with running the country properly. (But I still think it's better than the alternative-communism or a dictatorship.)
However, today I find myself in a strange position. I actually agree with the government. In today's paper there was an article about Japan and the United Nations (UN) and how the government wants to encourage more young people to work at the UN. I absolutely, whole-heartedly, completely 100% agree!
united nations
Japan is the UN's second largest financial donor-last year Japan provided just over 10% of the budget yet only have 2.4% of the total of workers at the advisor level or above.

America provides about 22% of the budget and about 10% of the advisors are American. While it's virtually impossible to have the staff numbers match the financial support-some countries couldn't have any staff there if we did that-Japan should be better represented I think.

So, I love the idea that the government has created a seminar and training initiative to encourage more young people to go and work in the UN! If I were 'young', I'd do it in a heartbeat! It would be a great job and it would look awesome on your resume too, wouldn't it? I wish I had thought of that when I was young...younger...ha ha!

Have a great day!
