Wanna' go for a run?

Good morning everyone,

I don't know about Hiroshima, but it was freezing in Kuga yesterday!  No, not just 'cold'-when we got there, the temperature was -1C! Today in Hiroshima, it'll be a lot warmer than that-we should mostly sunny skies and a high around 10C. In fact, they've raised the highs for most of the week-all week will have temperatures around 10C as a high and around 2C as a low and skies will remain mostly clear...

Yesterday my running club entered a race in Kuga and it was so fun! Sure it was cold, but we got to enjoy some exercise in the outdoors and on top of that, we got some free 'oshiruko'. Last year they gave us 'zenzai'. Don't ask me the difference! They taste the same to me!

Anyway, after that we went to Sanzoku for lunch. Have you ever been there?  If not, it was awesome! The chicken was huge and tasty. The udon was good and the beer was cold. And, on top of that, they have seats inside, outside, upstairs, under a kotatsu...all kinds of seating to suit your desire! It was fun too!

But while we were having lunch, we talked about how there probably wouldn't be any new members joining the team this year. It's not really a problem, but you know how it is with clubs, circles, teams, etc..., right? At first there is a lot of interest in the club, then some people give up, some people move away, some people get married or whatever and slowly the club loses members. So, you always need new members to join to keep the club going.

Right now, we're sitting at about 15 members, and of those 15 there are about 4 or 5 of us who join every race and then another 4 or 5 who join about half of the races and the last 4 or 5 I  haven't seen for over a year!  ha ha! So now we are looking for new members...

If you know anybody who likes running but isn't too serious let me know!
There are a few things to consider however.

1) If you are thinking about joining as a chance to 'practice your English', don't even bother  because we never speak English while I'm with my running club members. Most of them aren't even interested in English!

2) Don't worry if you aren't a 'serious' runner. We have members like me who run about 3 or 4 times a week and other members who don't train at all and only run on 'race days'. And there are some members who only run so they can join the drinking party after the race!  Ha ha! And the team has members of all levels-there are one or two guys who could run 10k in under 40 minutes if they wanted to and there are a couple of people who finish 10k in about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Nobody cares if you're a beginner or not-it's just for fun. On occasion we try a half-marathon and some of us even tried a full marathon in October, but for the most part we run in 10k races in and around Hiroshima.

3) I don't want to be ageist-the club is open to all ages, but just so you know, I'm the oldest one by far!  I'm not sure, but the youngest member is under 25 and most of the rest of the members are in their 20s or early 30s. The group is pretty 'young' and young at heart (meaning me...ha h!).

4) Also the members are a pretty even mix of guys and girls. I think there are slightly more guys, but it's pretty close.

5) And it's a social group-we always go for a drink after the race. We aren't boozers, but we like to enjoy a drink and good food after a hard run! We enter about one race a month from September or October to May.

6) Be forewarned that you will have a drawer full of ugly t-shirts that are only good for pyjamas in the summer...ha ha!

7) if you're one of my students...hmmm...I'll probably say 'no'. It's my day off after all and I  don't want to 'teach' or be a 'sensei', I just want to be 'Jerry', but I could make an exception if you promised to act like a friend while we are at the race and then act like a student while you are at school...hmmm...the more I  think about it, the harder it would be I guess...but if you are really, REALLY keen, let me know and we can talk about it...

So, if after reading these, you might be interested in joining our club, let me know! It's too late to sign up for the March race, but we are thinking about joining a race in Tabuse in April...

Have a great day!
