...and then there were none...

Good morning everyone,

That wasn't a very fun ride home last night on the bicycle...luckily I was mostly prepared for it. I had my rain jacket and pants, but I figured that the worst of the rain would be over by the time I was heading home, so I didn't bother with a rain hat. That was not my best decision! Ha ha! The good news is that my hair got washed three times yesterday-in the shower in the morning, in the rain on the way home and again in the shower before bed. I won't need to wash it for three days! Ha ha! The good news is that today and tomorrow will be the epitome of perfection. Not a cloud in the sky! I should go for a picnic or something today...

This may come as a bit of a surprise to most of you, but I'm not much of a drinker...at least not anymore. Sure, I like to have a few beers when I do go out, but that isn't very often. And my mother will be the first person to tell you that it's a good thing...well, I haven't learned many things in life, but one thing I have learned is-don't argue with your mother! You can never win! Ha ha!

I will say that there is one bad point though...last night I wanted to go out for some ji-dori. Ji-dori is a special kind of chicken that is all corn-fed so the meat is yellower in color than typical chicken.

Anyway, there is a pretty good ji-dori ya (ya means shop or restaurant depending on the context) near Nishi-Hiroshima Station. It is about the only place you can go to around the station other than Uotami...ha ha! Or I should say it was...

That's right! I showed up at the foot of the stairs and right away something seemed different...it was brighter and there was a signboard promoting Ebisu beer for only 290 per glass (which is about one-third what I've been paying for beer recently...ha ha!) Then I saw a shop sign saying, 'Ichi-ya'. I wondered if a new shop had opened next to the ji-dori place...then when I climbed the stairs I found that the ji-dori shop had closed and this one opened. What the...?! When did that happen?! It hadn't been that long since I'd been...less than two months I think...anyway, since I last went, it had closed and a new shop had opened...

As for the new shop...well, it was good and they serve Ebisu for only ¥290 so it's definitely got a couple of good points.

The only thing is that it didn't have any one particular point to make me want to go back again...do you know what I mean? There are lots of good restaurants in Japan, which means I don't have any pressure to go back to the same place unless it's got something that no other place has...like a unique menu...or really good prices...or really good-looking staff (hey! I'm honest anyway! Ha ha!)..or...something to draw me back. This new 'Ichi-ya' had a pretty standard menu and the prices weren't bad, but nothing really stood out to make me say, "I want to go there again!" So...I probably won't, unless I get a craving for cheap Ebisu...ha ha! (For those of you back home, Ebisu is a premium brand beer in Japan, so you can't usually find it in small shops and definitely not for only ¥290!)

I guess the silver lining in all of this is that my mom will be happy to know that I don't go out drinking that much any more...ha ha!

Have a great day!
