Oopsy daisy!

Good morning everyone,

The weather yesterday was pretty good. But that's about it for nice weather for the next 4 or 5 days. It'll be cloudy for most of the day today with a chance of rain in the evening. Then rain tomorrow, mostly cloudy with a chance of rain on Friday and the same again on Saturday. The next time sunny weather is in our forecast is Sunday.

I've now joined the 50% of the population who have 'fainted'. Now, before anyone goes crazy worrying about me-don't. It wasn't like I really fainted. I was just sitting on the sofa and stood up too fast and 'blacked out' for a second. Sure, it was a bit scary, but it was so funny. I even remember thinking as I was falling-"What!? Am I falling? Seriously!?" Ha ha!

I got right back up and was totally fine the rest of the day. The only thing I decided to change was to not for a run.

I did spend a bit of time checking out what may have caused it-you know, just in case. And it turns out that it's pretty common among 'healthy' people. About 50% to 60% people will experience it in their lifetime.

So, what may have caused it? There are a few causes-the main one is medication, but seeing as I'm not on any medication, we can rule that one out. Then I thought about it some more and saw that it can also be caused by low blood pressure and low blood pressure is caused by dehydration and being too hot.

After thinking about it, I'm sure that's what it was. I don't have any other symptoms and I noticed that I sometimes felt light-headed when I stood up from lying on my sofa. Ahhh! I got it! I have one of those 'L' shaped sofas and I sometimes sit on it with my neck bent at a strange angle (meaning blood flow to my brain is constricted) and that combined with a little dehydration and standing up too fast caused me to 'blackout'. In fact, if you want to be technical, I didn't actually black out, I was still aware, so officially I 'greyed out'...ha ha!

And no, I didn't hurt myself because I was still conscious when I was falling down...well, it wasn't even like I fell down exactly. It was more like sitting back down...UNGRACEFULLY...ha ha! It wasn't like I woke up on the floor wondering what had happened. I just ended up back on the sofa...like someone who has had a bit too much to drink...

Anyway, I thought twice about writing today's blog, because I don't want anyone (mainly my mom) to worry about me, but at the same time, it was the most interesting thing that happened to me yesterday! Ha ha! It's not serious. But, yes...if it happens again, I'll go the hospital (of course)!

How many of you have ever fainted? In Japan, I've heard it's quite common to faint from a lack of iron in your blood. Is that true? In fact, you even have a word for it, don't you? Is this right-'tachikurami'?

Have a great day!
