No problem!

Good morning everyone,

There's no real change in the forecast for today. We may see some rain late this evening or overnight and into tomorrow. Sunny weather will return on Thursday and Friday before we see unsettled weather on the weekend (unsettled means the weatherman has no clue what the weather is going to be like...ha ha!). Highs all week will be in the mid 20s and lows in the mid teens except for Thursday which is expecting a low of only 17C.

So, I finally got the courage to update the OS (operating system) on my laptop. I had been running Windows Vista on it from the time I bought it till yesterday. Vista wasn't one of the more popular operating systems put out by Microsoft over the years...ha ha! I laughed because that's putting it mildly! It was crap!

Anyway, I don't really use my computer for much-other than surfing the net and making the odd poster so it wasn't a big deal to me. Then they stopped providing updates for Internet Explorer for Vista. Vista can't run any Internet Explorer beyond Explorer 9. So what, you ask? Well, now Internet Explorer is up to version 11. Of course the newer versions run faster, but that isn't the only reason I wanted to update to Windows 7. The main problem is that Explorer 11 came out October of last year so all companies are updating their websites to work with Explorer 11. That means that over the past year or so, I've been able to access fewer and fewer websites. It got to the point now that the only sites I can check on my computer were Mainichi and the weather. Seriously! I couldn't check facebook (no big loss), Amazon or any of the Canadian newspapers, not to mention sports!

The good news is that I updated my computer. The bad news is that the guy at Edion had no idea what he was talking about when he told me that I wouldn't need to re-enter the User ID and Password for my internet connection. That means that I don't have any internet connection at work at the, if you are one of the few people who email my work account, please be patient! I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible!

I may have to break my rule of not going to my school on my day off today just to get the internet hooked up again... ha ha!

It's funny though, after the first 15 minutes of frustration of not being able to connect, I just accepted it, turned off my computer and relaxed with a  good book. It was way better than surfing the net! I have visions of me being one of those grumpy old men who slowly drifts away from technology as he gets older and older. I'm a bit like Will Smith in "I, Robot" (minus the movie-star good looks and bulging muscles) in that I don't really trust technology that much...

But, the problem is that I live and work in a high-tech world, so as long as my school is open (another week or two at least...ha ha!), I'll have to remain connected to the net. Sigh...

How about you? Do you ever get stressed out by technology and daydream about the simpler life before internet?

Have a great day!
