Time to say good-bye?

Good morning everyone,

We've been enjoying some great fall weather and it looks like it's going to continue for a few more days. Tuesday and Wednesday morning are looking cool with lows around 7C or 8C and highs in the high teens in the forecast, but it'll be sunny all week and should warm up again from Thursday!

I've been wearing the same watch for about 10 years and I love it...

Of course I've got a couple of back-ups that I like but none of them compares to my Paul Smith one. However, recently it has been burning through batteries. I had the battery changed this summer-I forget when, but it is already starting to lose time.

It's lost about 3 minutes or so in the past few months. So, I took it to a watch shop to find out what was wrong with it. Apparently it's because of the 'movement' or clockwork inside. The clockwork inside your watch needs to be cleaned and oiled about once every 3 to 5 years.

Seeing as I have never had it cleaned and it's closer to 10 years old I guess I can't complain. Or so I thought...I asked her how much it would cost to have the movement cleaned and she said that they didn't have the parts or tools to do it, so they would have to send it somewhere and it would cost me about 13,000 yen! ¥13,000!? That seems like an awful lot-it's about half of the watch cost me...

I politely declined and took my watch back...I'm hoping that I can get it done a bit cheaper at a Paul Smith shop. Luckily we have one or two in Hiroshima. I know they'll still have to send it off, but I'd like to think that going directly to the source is the cheapest option...

I'm dreaming, I know. It's probably going to be about the same or more! Ha ha!

Which means I need to make a decision on my watch...is it time to retire it and get a new one? Or do I remain loyal and spend half as much again as I originally paid to keep a watch that is 10 years old?

Decisions, decisions...

Have a great day!
