Soothing the pain

Good morning everyone,

The rain came a bit earlier than I expected yesterday, but the good news is that it means we won't have to worry about it today. This morning will start out cloudy and then we should see the sun at times throughout the day. The whole week is looking like it'll  be mostly sunny and highs will be between 11C and 13C. We may see warmer weather on the weekend...but it's still a bit far away. I'll keep you posted!

Well, as most of you know, I was planning on going to Honoyu during the New Year's holidays and after yesterday, I 'm so glad  I didn't. Even though I went on a Monday, it was still really busy! I never had to wait for a shower or find a spot to soak, but there were a couple of baths that I couldn't try out because they were full the whole time I was there!

I had expected it to be packed with the over-60 crowd and there were a lot of retirees, but by no means were they the only ones there. Actually, I was surprised by the number of men there around my age too!

Anyway, the facilities were great. It was clean and pretty spacious and there were a lot of baths to choose from. Even if I couldn't get into one or two that I would have liked to try, I was still happy with the ones I could get into. The sauna was huge-there must have been space for about 25 or 30 people in it! The outdoor baths were a nice touch too. I always like taking a bath outdoors. But it does mean that the water is a bit cooler, Normally, I wouldn't mind, but yesterday I wanted really, REALLY hot water for my sore legs. Instead, I ended up switching back and forth between the sauna and the cold tub. According to my running club members, who are physical therapists, even though the hot water feels better, cold water is actually the best way  to reduce the inflammation in your sore muscles after exercise. It kind of makes sense if you think about it, but even still, it is hard to get out of the nice hot bath and make yourself dip in the icy cold water-even if it's only for a few seconds. Ha ha!

It was worth it though...

Even though my legs are still a bit stiff today, they're a million times better than yesterday! I can see me spending a lot of post-marathon Mondays at Honoyu in the future! Ha ha!

Have a great day!
