Another sad story...

Good morning everyone,

It was freezing last night on my way home! This morning won't be much warmer and neither will tomorrow. According to the weatherman, it's going to warm up from Friday (the high on Friday will be 20C) and continue getting warmer and warmer till we get up to 24C on the last day of March! That's pretty toasty! It's hard to believe after almost freezing my butt off last night! I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm sure you've heard by now of the plane crash in Europe. A flight bound for Germany with 144 passengers and 6 crew on board took off from Spain and crashed in the French Alps killing all people on board. It's so sad-and it always makes it worse when young people are involved. This time there was a group of high school students returning home from a school trip-16 in all along with their two teachers. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families.

I'll be the first to admit that flying scares the heck out of me. I don't care what all of the stats say. They tell us that flying is safer than driving, that with the sheer number of planes in the air, a few accidents are inevitable and that if you look at the big picture (the number of flights that actually occur compared to the number of crashes) you will conclude that flying is safe.

Yeah, right. Not me.

Flying means putting your life in the hands of a company whose one goal is to maximize their profit with passenger safety far down on their list of priorities.

And it's not always the company's fault. I know that. Planes just seem so fragile. It's this tiny little metal bird in the air that is held together by a few bolts and rivets and is susceptible to acts of nature, terrorism, human error and mechanical failure-almost all of which end up with the plane crashing and everyone dying (again, I don't care that the statistics say most plane crashes have survivors. If it were up to me, I'd go everywhere by bullet train. Now, THAT is a safe way to travel. It's been in existence for over 50 years and it hasn't had a single derailment. Not one.

Now, all I have to do is wait for them to build a bullet train to Canada...

Have a great day!
