Shaping up

Good morning everyone,

Still enjoying this weather?! I can't believe that we are two-thirds of the way through June and I still haven't used the A/C at home! Normally it's on by the end of May! Today and tomorrow we can expect the sunny weather to continue and then we'll see some rain Thursday through Saturday before turning sunny again on Sunday. Although, to be honest, that forecast could completely change by the time I check the weather again tonight...what can you do? It's rainy season.

I'm seriously getting out of shape. Since I hurt my hamstring in early May and then my Achilles in mid-May, I haven't been out for a run. Heck, I couldn't even walk without limping for a couple of weeks. They are both slowly getting better, but much, much more slowly than I thought. I figured I'd be out and running again-albeit slower and for shorter distances-by the beginning of June. Here it is June 23rd and I'm still not that close to hitting the road again.

I'm trying to be patient. I know that rushing back is the worst thing I can do. And I'm not worried about putting on weight...I may have put on 1kg since I stopped running, but that's to be expected and I'm not worried about it at all. The thing that worries me most is my fitness level. I haven't done any type of exercise while my legs have been injured and I can't really think of anything I can do. There's no way I can go for a swim or do any sport that forces me to run-a few weeks back I started playing tennis, but I could only play for a few minutes before I had to stop for fear of doing further damage to my legs.

Healthwise, the best thing would be to join a gym or fitness club, but my wallet and schedule both say, "No!". Ha ha! I'm really at a loss.

I can feel my legs getting better, but it's happening so slowly that it is a bit frustrating. I now know how it feels to not be able to do everyday things...and it sucks! I can't even jog a few steps when I'm crossing the road and there's a car coming.

So, I guess I'll just suck it up for another week or so...I'm thinking I may try to go for a run next Sunday...we'll see how this week goes first though.

How about you? Have you ever been frustrated when recovering from an illness or injury? How did you deal with it?

Have a great day!
