Good morning everyone,

Today will be cloudy and hot, tomorrow will be mostly sunny and hot and, well, the rest of the week will be pretty much the same. Highs all week will be between 31C and 34C and there isn't any rain in the forecast...and, for the first time in ages, there are no typhoons either. Not that it seems to matter-we're very lucky here in Hiroshima when it comes to typhoons.

Do you suffer from odontophobia? Odontophobia is the unnatural fear of dentistry and receiving dental care. Basically, it's a kind of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) where people become so afraid of getting dental work done because of earlier bad experiences that they do whatever they can to avoid the dentist. If you feel that way-don't worry. You're not alone. Some doctors suggest that as much as 75% of the population suffers from this. It's not that surprising really. If you think about it, how many people do you know that actually like going to the dentist?

Count me among that 75%. But I had to go yesterday, one of my old crowns chipped (it was put in about 9 or 10 years ago) and it needed repaired. While I was in there, the doctor took what I thought were some x-rays, but what actually turned out to be digital shots of my teeth and they scared the heck out of me! I'm one of those people who takes reasonably good care of my teeth-I brush twice a day and sometimes three times. However, I don't floss or rinse my mouth with mouthwash. Well, That's going to change. In addition to the tooth that needed work, he did an assessment of all my other teeth as well. It turns that I have one small cavity...in fact, it technically isn't a cavity, but could become one if I don't do anything about it. That wasn't so bad, but...

Even still, it was obvious that I need to take better care of my teeth. I bought both floss and mouthwash on my way home from the dentist! Ha ha!

How about you? Do you take good care of your teeth? Do you visit the dentist twice a year? I will be from now on, that's for sure!

Have a great day!
