Is it too early to think about autumn?

Good morning everyone,

Today and tomorrow are looking like great weather. Yeah, I know, it'll be hot and humid, but at least it'll be sunny too! Tuesday and Wednesday are likely going to be rainy as we feel the effects from Typhoon 15. Then, it should clear up on Thursday and be nice weather again for next weekend.

Okay, who else is already sick of summer? Bugs, humidity, sweaty and smelly passengers sitting beside you on the train. Bring on autumn, with its fresh, crisp air, cosy and stylish fall fashion, and seasonal flavours like pumpkin, cinnamon, and hot roasted chestnuts!

Luckily, it seems that Starbucks in Japan is feeling the same and has decided to give us a treat to really get us in the mood for autumn with their new range of chestnut flavour lattes and frappuccinos which are due to go on sale next month!

The new drinks, officially titled “Roast Nutty Chestnut Latte” and “Roast Nutty Chestnut Frappuccino” are due to go on sale on September 1 until September 30.

The new drinks will be available in a full range of sizes and the latte will be available hot or iced. The “nutty” part comes from the paste used as a base for the drinks, which is comprised of almonds and hazelnuts as well as chestnuts.

It's kind of sad that we only have one month to slurp down some chestnutty goodness, and it's a little disappointing that the supply will stop just as soon as the temperature finally starts to drop. For me, chestnuts are an autumnal flavour, and while I may already be looking forward to sipping on a hot Roast Nutty Chestnut latte sooner rather than later, doing it in an air-conditioned cafe while pretending it’s the best season of the year seems a little fake, don't you think? Why can’t we have chestnutty treats all the way till next spring?

While I'm excited for the new drinks, I can’t help but think that Starbucks is jumping the gun a little bit. Perhaps October would be a better time for such a warming and comforting drink? We’re all desperate for summer to be over too, but I'm not sure that I'm quite ready to start sipping on fall-themed drinks while it’s still so hot outside.

How about you?

Have a great day!
