Training Day

Good morning everyone,

It's looking like a good day for a race-I've got a 10km race in Fukuyama. The high will be around 10C and we can expect a mix of sun and clouds. In fact, the whole week is looking pretty much the same-highs around 10C, overnight lows around 1C and cloudy skies with some sun. Not too bad, but after enjoying such a gorgeous winter, it'll probably feel colder than it actually is.

For the first time since I started running, I'm not looking forward to a race. Don't get me wrong-of course I'll go and I'm sure I'll have a good time, but it just feels different today.

For starters, I haven't run for about 3 weeks. That's the longest I've gone without running since I started all those years ago! The worst part is, there's no one reason why I haven't. It's true that I've been recovering from a slight hamstring pull, but it wasn't serious enough to put me on the shelf.

Between the injury-which made running a lot less fun, the fact that I've been busy at work, and Mother Nature-who has been conspiring to keep me from running-I haven't had any chance to train.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens today...I'll either finish the race in my slowest time in months or die of a heart attack around the 7km mark...ha ha!

Right now, I'm thinking that I'll treat today's race like the first training day for next month's race. If I can run today's 10km in under 50 minutes, I'll be happy. But more importantly, I want to use today as a springboard to get me back to running at least 3 days a week (and hopefully 4) for the foreseeable future.

Have a great day and wish me luck!
