Going upscale

Good morning everyone,

It's going to be a pretty nice fall day today. We're expecting mostly sunny weather and a high of 18C. That sounds about right for me. Actually, this warm, sunny weather is going to stick around all the way through Monday. It's looking like we may get some rain on Tuesday and then it's going to be chilly on Wednesday-at the moment, they are calling for a high of only 14C on Wednesday...

When I think of crème brûlée, I think of nice French restaurants-maybe a little pricey, but definitely not fast food...

But McDonald’s, the king of inexpensive fast food chains, is using crème brûlée as the source for a trio of new beverages. While that may seem like a tall task, McDonald’s Japan has shown plenty of gourmet flourishes before in creating dessert drinks. What’s more, the crème brûlée-inspired items will be offered through its McCafe by Barista sub-brand of mini coffee houses located inside of select McDonald’s branches.

The star of the lineup is the Crème Brûlée Frappe (it's the one on the left in the picture below), a blended ice beverage topped with caramel sauce, crème brûlée-flavored whipped cream, and crumbled sugar cookies. The variety of ingredients promises a mix of sweet and bitter notes, plus a number of textures to enjoy with every sip.

If you’re in need of some caffeine, the Crème Brûlée Latte, seen in the center of the above image, is an espresso enhanced by crème brûlée syrup drizzled over crème brûlée whipped cream, and once again accompanied by sugar cookie pieces. Finally, the Iceed Crème Brûlée Latte, seen on the far right, brings all of the special ingredients together, crowning an iced latte with crème brûlée syrup, caramel sauce, crème brûlée whipped cream, and crumbled sugar cookies.

Prices start for the Crème Brûlée Latte at Y350, for the Ice Crème Brûlée Latte at Y390, and for the top-of-the-line Crème Brûlée Frappe at Y460. All three beverages are on sale now at McCafe by Barista locations, and will be available for a limited time.

Do you want to know the McCafe by Barista locations in Hiroshima? Well, it's easy...you have to go to Takehara, Mihara or Onomichi. That's right. There are 185 McCafe in Japan. 3 are in Hiroshima Prefecture and none in Hiroshima City...<sigh> It looks like there won't be any crème brulee drinks in my near future...

How about you? Planning on going to Takehara anytime soon? Ha ha!

Have a great day!
