Want to get a day's worth of calories in one meal? Try one of these places...

Good morning everyone,

The weather is going to be pretty much the same for the next couple of days-a mix of sun and clouds and a daytime high of around 15C. Thursday and Friday will be ok too, a bit cooler and a bit cloudier but not too bad. The weekend isn't looking very good though, we can expect overcast weather and a chance of rain then.

Headed to Tokyo and don't want to blow your budget? For a country that boasts the most restaurants with Michelin stars, it’s also home to a ton of places that simply want to fill your stomach to capacity… and beyond!

Here are six of the best restaurants that boast about pure “volume” of food in no particular order.

Tori-en / 鳥園

The literal Mt. Fuji of roast beef bowls can be found at this shop. Want to forget about your troubles without using alcohol?  Tori-en should be one of the first stops on your restaurant crawl. (like a bar crawl)

Address: Tokyo-to, Shinjuku-ku, Nishi-Shinjuku 1-2-4
Open 12:00 p.m. to 11:40 p.m.
Closed New Year’s Day

Kitchen Mamii / キッチンマミー

Open for only three hours during the day for lunch, this popular spot for office workers and students piles on the fried shrimp for a measly Y850. I'm a fan of fried shrimp. I wonder if I could actually eat all of that...ha ha! I doubt it.

Address: Tokyo-to, Chiyoda-ku, Kanda Jinbouchou 2-28, Kase Building 1st Floor
東京都千代田区神田神保町2-28 加瀬ビル 1F
Open 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Closed Sundays and holidays

Tonsai / 豚菜

The “large” size is not a misnomer at this restaurant as their regular portions are quite massive in and of themselves. The restaurant is famous for their breaded chicken cutlet (chicken katsu), the dish with tartar sauce is the most highly recommended.

Address: Kanagawa-ken, Fujisawa-shi, Shounandai 1-20-3
Open 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Closed Wednesdays

Nikujiru Ramen kimi / 肉汁らーめん公

If you are the kind of person who loves meat toppings on their ramen, Nikujiru has a bowl with your name on it. While another ramen shop might give you 3-4 slices in their “chashumen”, you’re going to get a whole bowl of meat here for only Y1,300). Be ready to let out a satisfied sigh when you reach the bottom of the bowl-either from the satisfaction of having enjoyed some great meat or the satisfaction of having survived eating so much meat...ha ha!

Address: Tokyo-to, Kanagawa-ku, Kita-Shinagawa 2-25-10
Open 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays and holidays)

Agemonya / あげもんや

If fried chicken is your thing you should head over to Agemonya in Suginami. Their scrumptious and juicy pieces of fried chicken will have you dreaming of karaage whenever you think about dinner.

Address: Tokyo-to, Suginami-ku, Koenji Minami 4-29-9, Dai 3 Anabuki Building
東京都杉並区高円寺南4-29-9 第3穴吹ビル
Open 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

the Nikudon no Mise / the肉丼の店

The old saying is “quality over quantity”, but for most restaurants on this list, quantity stands on equal ground with quality. The topping of raw egg on this roast beef mountain makes for a delightful dinner that you might need a shovel to get through.

Address: Tokyo-to, Ota-ku, Nishikamata, 7-5-5 Dai 6 Kikuchi Building, Spacy Plaza Kamata 1st Floor
東京都大田区西蒲田7-5-5 第6菊地ビルSPACYプラザ蒲田 1F
Open 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

With so many delicious restaurants wanting to welcome us back in 2017, perhaps we should spend our money on a gym membership as opposed to the lottery-ticket-like Lucky Bags that are being sold now.

Oh...and sorry about these being all in Tokyo. I thought it'd be fun to see them without actually having them so near that I'm tempted to go. Do you know any places like this in Hiroshima?

Have a great day!
