Getting a dashcam

Good morning everyone,

It's looking like today and tomorrow will continue to see the warm, sunny weather we've been having. Then the next couple of days after that are looking cloudy and unsettled before clearing up again for the weekend.

I'm thinking about getting a 'dashcam' for my bike.

Usually, in Japanese it's called a 'drive recorder', but back home they're called dashcams. People use them for all sorts of reasons-mostly in case there's an accident, then it reduces the dependency on 'my word versus their word' as evidence. Do you know what I mean?

And, while Japanese people are pretty welcoming to foreigners as a whole, Japanese authorities are not nearly so. Their tendency is to go with the local over the 'foreigner' if there is ever a case where the evidence is lacking. And, on tope of that, I've been the victim of some passive-aggressive behaviour by other drivers, cyclists that I know they would never do to other Japanese people. So, those are two pretty compelling reasons to get one, I think.

Anyway, I figure it's better to be safe than sorry, right? Plus, who knows? I might even record a crime or another accident and that may help the police with their investigation.

Unfortunately, there aren't many for bicycles and the ones that are available aren't cheap. But, a few thousand yen now may save me tens or even hundreds of thousands of yen down the road, eh?

So, what do you think? Should I get a handlebarcam (I made that word up-it's not real...ha ha!). How about you? Have you got a dashcam or are you thinking of getting one?

Have a great day!
