Asa Zoo Night Safari

Good morning everyone,

It's going to be mostly cloudy today with a  40% chance of rain and then it'll clear up for tomorrow and the rest of the week, so we are looking at a mix of sun and clouds and daytime highs in the mid 30s for the next week or so. I thought it was supposed to cool down after such luck yet.

Asa Zoo Night Safari 2017

Asa Zoo is having a night safari this weekend and next weekend. It's a chance to see nocturnal animals in action and to escape to the relative cool of the Asa highlands. The “night safari” is only held 8 nights a year, and it is always popular with families and dating couples.

Sure, there is some debate as to whether Asa Zoo is good for the animals or not. But it seems that although the confined spaces in which many of the animals are kept (especially the big cats) are disgraceful, on the whole, as zoos go, the conditions are relatively good.

Hopefully some of the obvious delight of the kids that visit will translate into long term conservationist thinking for the planet and a respect for animals.

The zoo is open until 21:00 everyday (final admission at 20:30). On Saturday nights there are Kagura performances between 18:00-20:00 and on Sundays there are evening concerts at 18:00-18:30 and 19:30-20:00.

There are shuttle buses every 10-20 minutes from Kamiyasu Station on the Astram Line which will take those of you who can't or don't want to drive directly to the zoo.

What do you think? Is it tempting? Have you already been? What was it like?

Have a great day!
